Bulgaria is situated in south east Europe and occupies a substantial part of the Balkan Peninsula. To the north along the Danube River it borders Romania, and to the west, Serbia and the Republic of Macedonia. To the south lie Greece and Turkey, and the east touches the Black Sea with a coast of 378 km (240 miles), with some of the largest beaches in Europe.
