Taxis are a very cheap and a popular mode of transport for visitors and inhabitants alike. Make sure the taxi you intend to use has a working meter, and if in any doubt, agree on a set price for the journey before you get in, as it is not unusual for some unscrupulous drivers or taxi companies to charge extortionate rates to foreigners. The Danube river offers regular boat and hydrofoil services connecting the Bulgarian towns of Vidin, Lom, Kozloduj, Orjahovo, Nikopol, Svishtov, Tutrakan and Silistra.
